Is Hip-Hop Still Dead????

Its been almost 2 years after NaS coined the "Hip-Hop is Dead!" statement and we now find ourselves in a state where Common has received for best Hip Hop artist (BET HHA '07), Kanye West has told us that its a Good Life but when your mama dies we Can't Tell Him Nuttin', Jay-Z is no longer el presidente of DEF Jam, but finds himself in Hip-Hop matromony with Beyonce! Wu Tang's Ghostface Killah has dropped 1 group album and 2 solo album's (huh?! Thats right he just dropped another album)with rumors still a float that he's beefin' with RZA! And don't forget that Lil Wayne is crossing over the golden era Hip-Hop heads & skurban dudes all in to Lil Wayne fans. T-Dot is finally showing signs of its over-whelming potential by bulding its buzz with the solo careers emerging like Flow 93.5's Poster Boy, The Kid Famous,Rochester aka Juice's mega calabo for the Pull Rmx, B-Boy Supreme Tona, Skrewface gritty Theo3 and next generation of rap heads like Young Godd Alex Dimez, Jay Dah Man,Whether you're about to cop that L'il Wayne Carter III or bangin to the credible The Roots Rising Down album it is plain to see that Hip-Hop is NOT Dead!-- Its just moving to the North!

Hip Hop vs Cancer!

This past Friday Night T-dot classic emcee, Marvel called in to talk about his first studio album. DJ Shortcut and djO? pumped new and classic hip hop joints of the realest variety.

The FNL crew then jetted over to Down One Lounge for yet Another benchmark performance by Alex Dimez. The dj's also stepped up to the 1's & 2's as eight djs threw down on a 4-turntable set up alongside some of the city turntablist/dj's all in the name of fighting Cancer!

The Just Entertainment sponsored event raised $1500 unofficially for The Canadian Cancer Society. A great time was had by all... except for those stranded by the TTC public transit abrupt strike at midnight!

Maybe hip-hop can raise funds for TTC too!

Nelly Has Flow!?!?!!

You be the judge?

FNL - Performs @ Yonge/Dundas Square

In recent years Downtown received a makeover of artistic proportions. And the infamous intersection of Yonge & Dundas has architecturally transformed in to a Canadian Time Square as envisioned by city planners and the original Bad Boy and former controversial mayor of Toronto Mel Lastman. It has become the home of many festivals and concerts which has seen stars such has Melanie Durrant, Jully Balck and Beyoncé.

On Saturday April 19th of 2008 it was catered to many local Hip Hop performers both season and fresh faced to game; many perfomers took to the stage to showcase their talent. Skateboarding, grafitti and basslines were the added set the mood for a sunny saturday afternoon-- But it wasn't till the sun was setting that Young Godd Alex Dimez took to the stage to bless the crowd with an impactful 2 song set which included both Friday Night Live (FNL) dj's Shortcut & O-nonymous. Dimez's performance even garnered the perfect back drop for City TV camera crew who appeared to be doing a story on the event. Other performers who had strong performances were Gee Wunder, and the Screwface Capital mayor - Theology 3.

Spring has just arrived to Toronto and already Alex Dimez is setting pace for what promises to be a busy summer!

Beats, Rhymes, Life & Death

The month of February is a special month for Hip-Hop culture.

We celebrate Black History Month and all of the contributions, triumphs, struggles and stories of our collective history that have led us to have this great art we call Hip Hop.
We also celebrate the birthday of the Legendary Bob Marley a musical profit of peace and unity. Born on February 6th, 1945. Bob Marley impacted Hip Hop and the world in a profound way.

We als celebrate... the Beats, Rhymes and Life of Mr. James Yancey "J Dilla".

His impact on hip-hop is a profound as the the Godfather of Reggae. J Dilla was not of the peace profitetic status of Bob Marley, for if he were to have walked the same path as Bob Marley he would NOT have been remembered and celebrated as he is today.

J. Dilla walked his own path and positively affected people in his own way through his own passion of music. Completely relatable Mr. J Dilla related to the incense burning-sandle wearing-dreads the exact same way he related to the Iced Out-Baller-status-Thugged mans dem in da club. His legacy much like all our profits will be remembered and celebrated... Tonight on FNL we pay tribute to J Dilla.

RIP J Dilla Feb 7th, 1974 - Feb. 10th, 2006
